NorthStar Hosted Solution Puts Data On Tap for Brewsters Brewing Company

IRVINE, California - January 19, 2009

At Brewsters Brewing Company, important operating data now flows freely from eleven restaurant locations to company management through a NorthStar Portal Hosted Solution from Custom Business Solutions, Inc.


With locations throughout Western Canada, Brewsters uses NorthStar Portal Hosted Solution (HS) to organize and deliver up-to-the minute reports on individual restaurant operations as well as chain-wide data. According to David Yipp, Project Manager for Brewsters, "Information that used to take days or weeks to search for, calculate and compile, is now available instantaneously so we can use it to make better decisions. It has made a huge difference on the administration level by reducing workflow and increasing our data awareness. This has fundamentally changed the way we run our business."

NorthStar Portal HS was recently introduced by Irvine, California-based CBS. Company president Art Julian believes a key benefit of this spin-off from the company's successful NorthStar Enterprise software is that is puts valuable information technologies within economic reach for a wider range of restaurant operators. "Because NorthStar HS is web-based, there is not a big capital investment for servers, software and IT support. It's priced on a per month, per restaurant basis so they just sign-up and get started."

Brewsters' Dave Yipp agrees, "NorthStar Portal HS is simple, flexible and very intuitive to use. It was obvious to me that whoever designed NorthStar had an intimate knowledge of the restaurant industry and how our business really operates. It pretty much worked flawlessly right from the start."

The relationship between Brewsters and CBS began a few years ago when Dave Yipp contacted Art Julian in his quest for a technology solution that would bring to life Yipp's vision for a better flow of information within the company. "I knew the information was all there in our POS system but we couldn't get it organized and posted to the places where we needed it" explained Yipp. "I thought there had to be somebody out there who was doing this so I started searching and was ultimately introduced to CBS."

At the time, NorthStar Portal was only available as a self-hosted software license which meant it was primarily targeted to larger operators. Yipp continued to stay in touch with CBS and when the Hosted Solution version of NorthStar Portal was launched in 2008, Brewsters became one of the first customers to sign up.
